Why Type II diamonds are different
Most diamonds sold globally are Type Ia. Type II stones are geological anomalies.
- Type II diamonds contain no measurable nitrogen impurities.
- They formed under exceptional geological conditions.
- They represent roughly 1 to 2 percent of all natural diamonds.
- They occupy the rarest end of the natural diamond spectrum.
The best Type II stones are not selected as ordinary jewelry inventory. They are collected because they combine beauty, geology, and scarcity in a way the market cannot reproduce at scale.
Type profiles
Type IIb and Type IIa serve different collectors, but both sit at the top of the natural rarity curve.
Type IIb
The absolute rarity
- Often associated with the rarest blue diamonds.
- Can include top white stones with extraordinary scarcity.
- Known for boron presence and electrical conductivity.
- Typically pursued as geological assets first.
Type IIa
The purest material
- Includes many D IF and D FL stones.
- Recognized for exceptional optical transparency.
- Favored for elite engagement and investment-led acquisition.
- Represents some of the cleanest crystal material in nature.
